I love restorative yoga. People often arrive at class tired, stressed and fed up, only to float out 90 minutes later, often reporting a wonderful sleep the following day. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, grumpy or stressed you might like to give it a go.
Or even if you’re feeling wonderful, this might help you to keep that feeling a bit longer !
I was lucky enough to train with Judith Hanson Lasater, who is regarded as the Queen of restorative yoga, so its a pleasure to be able to share what I learnt from her.
A restorative yoga class is very different from any other yoga class you may have experienced. For a start, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures in the course of a session. It may look from the outside as if you are not working at all. Restorative yoga is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching, fundamentally an act of kindness toward yourself. Instead of actively stretching your muscles, you allow your muscles to release by using props to support your body.
The next class is on the 19th September, when our class will be designed to support your energy levels as we move from summer into autumn. The October class coincides with a super moon, so we will be considering the impact that lunar cycles have upon us, and how yoga can help to balance our energies. In November, we will focus on conserving energy, as we approach the darkest days of the year.
Our December class will focus on a celebration of the winter solstice, allowing for much needed rest and relaxation during the festive season, concluding with mulled wine and mince pies (only one space left in December).
